ORIGIN STORY

Built by mental health QMEs, for mental health QMEs.

Oak Tree QME was founded by California-licensed mental health professionals who went through the QME certification process themselves, and came away with a clear-eyed view of what the existing preparation options were missing.

The QME exam prep landscape is dominated by courses built around physical medicine. Take one as a mental health provider and you’ll spend significant time on orthopedic impairment ratings, AMA Guides applications for musculoskeletal injuries, and other content that is tested on the exam but rarely relevant to psychiatric and psychological practice. You’ll pass — if you’re well-prepared — but you may find yourself uncertain about how to actually do the work once you start.

The report writing training landscape has the same gap. Generic courses provide the regulatory framework. They don’t provide the practical mental health context.
We built Oak Tree QME to fill that gap. Our materials were developed through real practice, refined by mental health professionals actively working as QMEs in the California workers’ compensation system.

What WE OFFER

Everything You Need to Become a QME

16-Hour Report Writing Course

DWC-approved and built for psych evaluations. Fulfills the mandatory report writing requirement for QME appointment in California.

Our approach

We Teach You to Pass. And to Practice.

We believe preparation should do two things: help you pass the exam, and prepare you to actually practice. Those are not always the same thing, and we think it’s important to be honest about the difference.

In our course, we tell you what’s on the exam, what’s highly relevant to your day-to-day work as a mental health QME, and where those two things diverge. We also teach you something most QME prep courses skip entirely: how attorneys read and use your reports. Understanding that perspective — what makes a report defensible, where opinions tend to get challenged, how the legal system interprets your clinical conclusions — makes you a meaningfully better evaluator from day one.
